CIVL.ca: Website Redesign & Community Engagement

CIVL Radio is a campus and community radio station that serves the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), and the communities of the Fraser Valley.

Discotoast redesigned and launched the new CIVL.ca website in 2022.

Features:

  • Custom Radio Player

    Player system for live and archived content

  • Custom Post Modules

    Allow the team to add posts for Blog, Projects, Events and more

  • Community Events Module

    Allows community members to register their venues, artists/ bands and groups/ organizations and submit events

  • Charts Module

    A visually engaging and regularly updated section of the radio website that showcases the station’s most popular songs. The ranked song list displays a countdown-style list of the top tracks, complete with song titles, artist names, and current chart positions

  • Schedule Module

    Provides listeners with a clear and up-to-date overview of upcoming shows, segments, and special broadcasts

Challenge:

CIVL aimed to update their website to improve its overall appearance and functionality. A key objective of this redesign was to create more avenues for community involvement and interaction, including new features that would facilitate active participation from their audience.

Action:

Discotoast redesigned CIVL.ca using our custom Radio Fusion theme, delivering a fresh, modern, and highly functional online presence for CIVL Radio.

The revamped website offers a seamless and intuitive experience for both listeners and contributors, tailored specifically to the needs of campus and community radio.

Result:

With the new design, CIVL Radio now benefits from enhanced capabilities for content management and community engagement.  The backend tools empower station staff and volunteers to take full control of their content while maintaining consistent branding and structure.

On the front end, visitors can explore a dynamic broadcast schedule, listen live, browse past shows, and discover local talent. Integrated social sharing and contributor profiles help strengthen connections between the station and its diverse audience, fostering greater community participation and visibility.
